Ryan Davies and Lauren Humphreys from Wrexham grabbed a guitar to protect themselves as trio tried to break down door during terrifying break-in
A husband-to-be has told of the terrifying moment a “sinister” gang tried to break into his bedroom as he settled down to sleep with his fiancée.
Ryan Davies and 20-year-old Lauren Humphreys had only just moved into their new home in Greenways, Wrexham , when raiders smashed their way in through a glass patio door at the back, shortly after 8.45pm on Sunday.
The gang then tried to force their way into the bedroom on the first floor of the semi-detached house as the two were going to sleep.
Mr Davies, 28, told how he shouted and grabbed a Gibson Les Paul guitar to defend a “petrified” Ms Humphreys who was screaming.
But bizarrely the raiders fled the house empty-handed despite having walked past a MacBook, Ipad and PS4 in the downstairs living room.
North Wales Police are now urging anybody with information to come forward.
Mr Davies, a customer service manager, said: “We had gone to bed and have got a lock on our bedroom door. We usually lock it and were preparing to watch TV for the night in bed.
“Then within about 10 minutes of sleeping what we believe, according to the police, were three people who have smashed in through the back patio with a rock, which I hadn’t heard.
“They have come into the house, walked past valuable goods that I keep in the front room without taking any of them and come up the stairs and attempted to come into the bedroom while we were trying to go sleep.
“They have aggressively tried to get into the bedroom. I started to shout and then we believe they have fled the property although we didn’t hear people running down the stairs.
“I picked up a guitar, it was the only thing I could find to defend myself with. But they had gone. We didn’t see them.”
Mr Davies said he was more concerned for the frightening effect it had on Ms Humphreys.
“I was petrified for my fiancée. We have only been living in the property for six weeks,” he said.
“It’s a lovely area and we love it around here, which is why it has come as such a shock.
“But to see my fiancée in that state, that is the main issue I have with this.”
Mr Davies added: “I would rather they had taken something. It seems quite sinister what has happened. Nothing was taken.”
The rear French door has boarded and the smashed glass had been swept into piles after the unnerving break-in.
Forensic officers have also been at the scene combing for clues.
A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We received a call at 9.04pm that there had been a break-in at an address on Greenways, Wrexham and the offenders had fled the scene.
“Police are now investigating.”
Witnesses or anybody with information is asked to call the police on 101
