A MOTORIST who said that he uses cannabis to “alleviate stress” lost his licence for a year after being caught drug-driving.

Dewi Wynne Williams, 30, of Penmaen Isa in Penmaenmawr, pleaded guilty to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the legal limit when he appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court on Wednesday (October 26).

Williams had 2.3mg of cannabis in his system – the legal limit is 2mg.

The court heard that he was stopped by police on the A55 near Colwyn Bay on August 10. A DrugWipe test was carried out.

Chris Dawson, representing Williams, said: “He told me he is someone who uses cannabis on the weekends. He takes it to alleviate stress.

"The last thing Williams thought was that he was committing an offence. He was horrified having been stopped and given a positive screening.”

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £35 victim surcharge.
