A violent sex attacker who was jailed after telling his victim “I can destroy your whole world” has lost an appeal against his nine-year sentence. Robert Glyn Lewis, of Deiniol’s Road, Mancot, subjected a woman to a sustained sexual ordeal in the summer of 2013
Robert Glyn Lewis, 34, subjected the woman to a sustained sexual ordeal after a drinking session in the summer of 2013.
Lewis, of Deiniol’s Road, Mancot, Deeside, throttled the terrified victim before roughly assaulting her.
He pleaded guilty to a string of offences arising from the incident, including threats intended to stop her giving evidence against him.
He was eventually jailed at Mold Crown Court in March 2014 for two assaults by penetration, sexual assault, perverting the course of justice and ABH.
Today, he challenged the term at London’s Court of Appeal, but was told he deserved all he got.
“The sentence could be regarded as severe, but it was within the appropriate bracket,” said Mr Justice Spencer.
“If this sentence was indeed severe, it was properly severe.
“These were serious sexual assaults, aggravated by nasty threats intended to frighten her into not giving evidence.
“It is not arguable that this sentence was manifestly excessive.”
The court heard Lewis’ sex attacks on the woman had been accompanied by violence, which made the whole incident worse.
He dragged her by the hair, squeezing her throat, said the appeal judge.
Later, as he awaited trial for the attacks, Lewis had threatened the woman in an attempt to derail his prosecution, he added.
“I will destroy your whole world, because I will not be in there forever,” Lewis told her.
Mr Justice Spencer said Lewis had since shown genuine remorse for his crimes and said he wanted to change his ways.
But the nine-year term was richly deserved for the offences, added the judge, sitting today with Lady Justice Rafferty and Judge Mark Brown.
The appeal bid was rejected.
