Merthyr Tydfil,South Wales - Woman needed hospital treatment after fireworks set off and put through letter box

Police are appealing for information after a woman was injured after fireworks were put through a letter box after being set off

Police have launched an investigation after the incident on Tuesday night

A woman has been taken to hospital with stomach injuries after fireworks were set off and put through a letter box.
Gwent Police said the incident happened on Tuesday at a property on Lady Tyler Terrace inRhymney at around 9.55pm.
The 39-year-old woman was taken to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil following the incident.
Police said they are keeping an open mind as to whether the incident was a “reckless prank” or attempted arson.
In a statement, police said: “A 39-year-old woman inside the property sustained stomach injuries and was conveyed to the Prince Charles Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.”
Rhymney Inspector Ian Muirhead has urged people to think about the dangers of using fireworks irresponsibly.

'When any fire starts it can spread rapidly'

He said: “These sorts of crimes are reckless and what some people think may be a bit of fun can lead to lives being put at risk with devastating consequences for the people living within the home.
“When any fire starts it can spread rapidly which can engulf a house and entrap the occupants in a few minutes. I want to emphasise that incidents like these can carry a prison sentence on conviction.”
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have seen something which could help police with their investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting log number 546 18/10/16.
