The court heard that in May this year witnesses reported a suspicious car on a lane — a "confrontation" between people living locally and the defendant then ensued, and the 33-year-old drove away from the scene in the vehicle.
Paul Hobson, prosecuting, said the car was found, in a damaged state, some two weeks later.
The number plates on the vehicle had been changed.
The court heard the car — a 2010-registered Kia — had been stolen on May 19 after the keys to the car had been taken from the staff room of a business in Morriston.
John Tarrant, for Lewis, said his client maintained that he had had nothing to do with the original taking of the vehicle.
Lewis, of no fixed abode, was out of prison on licence at the time of the offences having been released from a 28-month sentence for aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and other motoring offences.
he court heard Lewis has previous convictions for some 147 offences, including 54 for theft matters, six for driving while disqualified, and three for handling stolen goods.
Judge Keith Thomas sentenced Lewis to 12 months for handling stolen goods and four months for driving while disqualified, both sentences to run consecutively making a total of 16 months. He was also further disqualified from driving.
