The pet's devastated owner has now appealed for anyone with information to come forward in a bid to bring the culprits to justice
A mum-of-two has told of her devastation after she found her son’s beloved cat beaten to death.
Sophie Williams was shocked to discover the body of defenceless tabby Ozil in the grounds of the Segontium Roman fort in Caernarfon near the family’s home tonight.
In a twisted move the sick killers left their weapons – two golf clubs – crossed over on top of his battered body.
Sophie told the Daily Post that two children playing nearby had also seen the grizzly scene and were left “very upset”.
She said: “I got a message from the girl I got Ozil and his sister Elsa from after work.
“She said had seen a tabby cat in the Roman fort and he was dead.
“She knew I lived around the fort and hoped it wasn’t him.
“I went to have a look with my partner and we found him.
“There were two young boys nearby who came over and they were very upset by the scene.”
The last time the family saw their 18-month-old “friendly” pet was on Thursday evening.
She told how she felt that Ozil was beaten to death with the clubs.
Sophie said: “He’d not come home since Thursday night but he often stayed out for a night or two and would then come home.
“I’m just devastated what kind of sick person does something like that!
'Horrific death'
“He was beaten with the golf clubs – you could see pieces of fur on the clubs, why else leave the clubs like that on him?”
The mum-of-two told how she fears her nine-year-old son Oliver and five-year-old daughter Isabella will have nightmares if they found out how he died.
Tragically, the family’s other cat Elsa was killed just months ago after being hit by a car.
She said: “We have had him from a kitten he was my son Oliver’s cat he named him after an Arsenal player.
“We had his sister too but she went missing and was run over by the Spar on Min y Nant a few months ago.
“Ozil was really friendly, he often sat on the wall by the house to be stroked by passers-by.
“He was always in the fort, he loved attention from the visitors and kids who go there.”
Sophie is begging anyone who has any information about the attack to come forward.
She said: “We have reported it to the police and they now have the golf clubs.
"If anyone knows anything please come forward so that no other pet has to go through such a horrific death, and no other family has to go through the trauma of finding a much loved family pet in a such a state.”
