POLICE in Neath have issued a warning to residents after a spate of four burglaries and attempted burglaries in two days.
Officers said there had been a break-in at a house in Crynant, two attempted burglaries in Cadoxton, and a burglary of a garage in Briton Ferry all between January 3 and 4.
Police are conducting extra patrols — involving both uniform and plain clothes officers — in the affected areas, and are urging people to ensure their properties are kept secure at all times.
South Wales Police constable Joseph Crookes, a member of the Neath response team, said: "We think it is important that we advise people what is taking place so they can take necessary steps to protect their homes.
"There are crime prevention measures that can be put in place to deter a burglar such as locking doors and windows, installing an alarm or CCTV, and not leaving valuables items such as iPads and car keys on show. Ensure that tracking software on devices is enabled.
"Those who have expensive jewellery should consider making use of a safety box facility or installing a good quality safe that is secured to the wall or floor.
"I would also ask residents with CCTV to regularly check for any suspicious activity near their home."
The PC urged the public to keep an eye on their local communities, and to report any concerns they might have to the police.
He said: "The public are our eyes and ears. Burglars often live in, or near, the very communities in which they operate, so we would ask that any suspicious behaviour or individuals are brought to our attention immediately.
"It is important we all work together to keep the area safe."
