But Matthew Liam Whelan denies trying to murder Imtiaz Ul Haq in a raid at Costcutters in December
A man has admitted slashing a shopkeeper’s throat with a knife during a robbery.
Matthew Liam Whelan of Willow Park, Gladstone Way in Mancot, denied attempted murder but admitted a charge of wounding with intent.
The 29-year-old also admitted a charge of robbing shopkeeper Imtiaz Ul Haq, 58, at Costcutters in Chester Road East, Queensferry, on Thursday, December 8.
Co-defendant Leslie Peter Baines, 47, of King’s Road in Connah’s Quay, denied the robbery charge.
Judge Rhys Rowlands fixed a trial for May 22.
He also listed a pre-trial review in April to give the prosecution time to consider its position in relation to the defendant Whelan.
The charges arise from a robbery at a Costcutters in Queensferry in which Mr Ul Haq suffered serious knife injuries to his throat during a struggle at the store.
Both were further remanded in custody in the meantime.
