A man from London posed as a student while selling thousands of pounds worth of drugs from a student house in Cardiff, a court heard.
Segun Salako, 23, from South Croydon, enrolled as a student at a university in Cardiff in an attempt to deal drugs unnoticed from student digs in Rhymney Street in Cathays.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Salako moved to the terraced property in September 2015, after being invited to look at a spare room by another student.
He and his co-defendant Dean Markland-Langley, 27, from Hammersmith in North London, both pleaded guilty to possessing Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply.
The court heard that other students living in different rooms of the property did not realise what was going on for about eight months.
Prosecutors said police searched the house on April 24 and seized drugs with a street value of nearly £20,000, including heroin, cocaine, MDMA and cannabis.
Both men were arrested by officers, who found them in the front room, surrounded by the illegal stash.
Officers discovered crack cocaine on a plate in the middle of the room, which was cut into street deals.
Further searches uncovered heroin, MDMA, cocaine and cannabis, as well as other drug paraphernalia, like weighing scales, and cash.
Detective Constable Ross Canning, who led the investigation, said both men came to Cardiff from London with the intention of selling drugs.
He said: “Salako used the pretence of being a university student as cover for his drug dealing and they sold different drugs to maximise profits.”
The pair were sentenced by Judge Eleri Rees on Monday, October 3.
Salako was jailed for four years, while Markland-Langley, who was on licence for drug dealing at the time of his arrest, was jailed for six years and three months.
Detective Constable Canning said: “This will not be tolerated in South Wales.
“These men are career criminals and it is satisfying to take them off our streets and to put them behind bars. It sends a strong message to others.”
He added: “The public are our eyes and ears when it comes to tackling drugs and I hope this shows others that we are taking action on the information we get.”
Anyone who has information about drug dealing is asked to call South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
