A group of children are said to have been armed with golf clubs, a hammer and a metal bar to defend themselves from clowns.
Sales engineer Lewis Jones, 25, was on Cross Street in Gilfach near Bargoed when he said he saw the four youngsters on Monday night.
“The two boys were on bikes carrying golf clubs, so at first I thought they might be off for a round of golf,” he said.
“Then I noticed that one of the girls was carrying a big hammer and the other had a metal bar. And then I heard the girl with the hammer shout: ‘There’s no f****ing clowns up here.’”
The group of children were seen “running up and down the street” in Gilfach at 8.30pm.
Mr Jones said he thought they were no older than around 12 or 13.
He said: “I was shocked and a little bit alarmed at the sight of children with weapons.
“My dad was with me at the time and he didn’t have a clue what was going because he doesn’t have Facebook so he hasn’t heard about the craze.
“They were just in normal clothes.”
Mr Jones added: “I found the whole thing weird, but at the same time, I can see why carrying a weapon in this day and age is something a child might have to consider.
“The world we live in has gone totally mad.”
Mr Jones said it seemed as if the children were carrying weapons to defend themselves from the ‘killer clowns’ that have been causing havoc across the country.
This week a 10-year-old boy from Tredegar was left with a bruise after a clown threw something at him, and a 10-year-old girl was left terrified after she was approached by a clown with what she described as a sledgehammer in a Bridgend park.
