A PENSIONER says she and her elderly neighbours are afraid to leave their Sketty homes, after she was pushed to the floor and left bleeding as her handbag was stolen in broad daylight.
The 93-year-old had been walking across the empty car park of Sketty Park Community Centre mid-morning on Monday, November 16, when she was approached from behind and knocked off her feet.
Swansea Crown Court heard that she was left 'frightened for my life and shaking like a leaf' after Christian Jones had grabbed her handbag, which contained her house keys, bus pass, glasses and just £15 in cash. She was bleeding from the face, and screaming for help, which attracted the attention of people living nearby, who came to her aid.
Prosecuting, Kevin Jones told the court that Jones was traced after another neighbour who saw 28-year-old Christian Jones make off was able to identify his clothing, and subsequent examination of CCTV images from Clyne Court led police to make his arrest.

He added that after the incident, Jones 'went to a nearby bakery to buy a can of coke and an eclair.'
The court was told Jones, of Heather Crescent in Sketty, had left his victim with a cut to the top of her head, blackening to her eyes, and abrasion to her knee. He was arrested the following day at his mother's house, where he denied the offence, despite being shown the CCTV footage.
In an impact statement read to the court, his victim said: "In addition to the physical injuries, I am traumatised. I have not left my house since, and have not slept properly. I want my independence back because I have lost my confidence. I feel I have been imprisoned in my own home, and friends are also afraid to go out also. The community has been terrified."
Jones pleaded guilty to a single count of robbery. Mitigating, David Singh said Jones' actions were the result of an 'entrenched addiction to controlled substances'.
The court also heard Jones had more than 40 convictions for 78 offences, largely against women. They included spitting at a member of staff at Swansea railway station, stubbing out a cigarette on someone's cheek while being ejected from the Bryn-y-Mor pub, and beating someone about the head with their metal crutch at a Chinese restaurant on Walters Road.
Sentencing Jones to 80 months, whose actions had breached an earlier court order, judge Keith Thomas said: "Even by those driven by addiction, this was a despicable offence. You have a string of convictions all against female victims. You are a dangerous offender and a significant danger to the public and I consider it necessary and appropriate for an extended period of imprisonment."
