"A man entered the store and threatened the assistant with a knife and demanded money from the till before making off from the property."
The police force confirmed that "several hundred pounds" were stolen from the store in the incident.
The Evening Post contacted CK's Foodstores, but the company declined to comment on the incident.
Cockett ward councillor Ann Cook said: "This is not the first time this has happened.
"Waunarlwydd has been a quiet area in the past, but I know there was a robbery there recently, probably as recently as three months ago.
"It's sad that things like this happen in a small, little village.
"It does make people nervous, especially on these dark nights.
"I'm sure the police are speaking to residents about any fears they have and to reassure them."

He said: "This was a very upsetting experience for the shop staff and we are doing all we can to identify and locate the suspect.
