South Wales Police are investigating spate of burglaries in Baglan

RESIDENTS in Baglan are being warned to be extra vigilant following a spate of home burglaries in the run up to Christmas.
With the last of the six home raids taking place in the village on Tuesday, police in Neath Port Talbot have stepped up patrols in bid to catch the culprits and to deter anyone else from committing the crimes.
Baglan councillor Peter Richards said he wanted to send out his sympathy to the victims of these crimes.
He said: "I am shocked and saddened by this recent spate of burglaries as we move into the festive season.
This is totally out of character for this close community. It just goes to show how vulnerable we can all be and we all need to be more aware that perhaps not everyone out there is who we think.
"I would like to reassure all our residents that we are totally committed to catching these criminals, and have been working closely with the police to quickly put a stop to this." He said he wanted to send out a message out that "our community will not tolerate this crime".
Detective Inspector David Peart said although Neath and the surrounding area is still one of the safest places to live, homeowners could help keep it that way by introducing some basic home security measures.
He said: "I am also appealing for people to be vigilant and look out for each other. If you see a neighbour's home which is insecure, please be a good neighbour and point it out to them, particularly if they are elderly or have some form of disability.
"If you have any concerns or see people acting suspiciously please ring the police, we would much rather attend to address your concern than attend after a burglary has taken place."
Baglan councillor Carol Clement- Williams said: "The police have increased patrols in the area and are going around house to house giving home security advice to residents. Investigations are currently ongoing."
