HEARTLESS thieves are being hunted by police after targeting a vulnerable pensioner in his own home.
The distraction burglary - where the three men posed to be from the gas board before breaking in and stealing cash - happened on Woodfield Avenue in Flint on Tuesday.
DC Phil Roberts described the break-in, which happened at about 6.30pm, as a “callous” incident.
The hooded men were caught on CCTV footage outside the victim’s home.
DC Roberts said: “This was a particularly callous incident where a vulnerable elderly person has been targeted.
“I would remind residents to be wary of uninvited callers and to always ask and check the identity of anyone they don’t know and never to let anyone into your property, if you have any doubts.”
The offenders entered the property and stole a “substantial amount of cash”, according to police.
It was only last week where Flint county councillor Alex Aldridge sent out a warning message to residents in the town to be aware of bogus cold callers.
This came after another vulnerable and elderly resident, living Richard Heights, Flint, raised the alarm after two men knocked on her door trying to sell a variety of knives.
When questioned on how they got in to the secure building, the pair fled.
Cllr Aldridge said it is also important to be more vigilant in the run-up to Christmas to prevent “opportunists” the chance to exploit vulnerable people in the town
Anyone with any information in relation to the distraction burglary should call police on 101 or on Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting the crime reference number RC15187605.
