BT WILL remove phone boxes it is claimed are used as a hotline for drug deals on a Wrexham estate.
It was said that dealing was taking place at a phonebox in Gwenfro and one on Wavell Avenue in Smithfield, but BT were reluctant to remove them because they were still making money.
At this month’s meeting, clerk Michael Morris said BT had been in touch to confirm they would remove a number of boxes within the next five months including the one in Gwenfro.
Cartrefle Cllr Bryan Pritchard said he had also been told the phone box on Fenwick Drive was also to be removed.
Police present at the meeting confirmed there would be a focus on domestic violence in the build up to the festive season.
Queensway councillor Colin Powell expressed concern that there had been 11 incidents of domestic violence incidents in his ward during November.
He felt it was a high statistic for a month which included White Ribbon Day and asked whether the police would be “pro-active” in the build up to, and during Christmas.
PCSO Rob Parry confirmed the force were running an operation with two officers each shift, dedicated to dealing with domestic violence issues.
His colleague PCSO John Davies said he had been part of a similar operation in the summer which worked well.
He said support and reassurance was offered to previous victims of domestic violence, through home visits and phone-calls, and it was appreciated.
New Cartrefle Councillor Iolanda Banu Viegas also praised the police for their handling of a road traffic collision on Prince Charles Road the week before.
She praised the way they closed the road and looked after those involved until the ambulance arrived.
The PCSOs said they would take that feedback back to senior officers.
Officers policing the estate also have a new Twitter account, and can be followed at @nwpcaiaparkwxm
