Christopher Abbott, 36, who lived at the home, allegedly set fire to net curtains in a bedroom
A man has been charged with arson following a fire at a Wrexham residential home in the early hours of Friday morning.
Christopher Abbott, 36, now of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody at a special weekend court on Saturday morning.
He is charged with arson with intent to endanger life, and an alternative reckless arson charge, at Fairhome, Fairy Lane, Wrexham, by allegedly setting fire to net curtains and other items in a bedroom.
It is alleged that another resident suffered burns to his hands while attempting to extinguish the flames.
Abbott appeared from custody at Flintshire magistrates’ court at Mold.
He was remanded in custody to appear at a plea hearing at Mold Crown Court in January.
Details of the prosecution case were given by prosecutor David Challinor, who applied for a remand in custody given the nature of the offence and for his own protection.
He said that the defendant was now of no fixed abode and there was a real prospect of a custodial sentence if convicted.
Defending solicitor Melissa Griffiths did not apply for bail and said that at present the defendant did not have an address.
Abbott gave no indication of plea at this stage.
The court was told that Abbott was at the time living at the establishment, which cared for 23 people with mental health and learning difficulties.
Magistrates asked that the defendant’s vulnerability issues be passed on to the prison authorities.
