Kyle Smith from Newport was out in Cardiff when he said the incident occurred
A man was left with a fractured skull after he says he was attacked in Cardiff with a “metal bar”.
Kyle Smith was out with friends last Wednesday in the city when he decided to get a taxi home.
As the 28-year-old waited for a taxi he said he started chatting with a man who offered him a cigarette.
He said: “He was nice and gave me a cigarette and as we were talking I thought he was a tidy bloke.
“He said, ‘Come this way there is a better place to catch taxis.’"
Kyle said: “I only knew the one place to get taxis, but as we walked down that lane toward the Motorpoint he hit me over the head with something."
“I tried getting up but felt blood coming down my face. He tried to take my wallet but it was attached by a chain so he just took the money.”
Kyle, who lives in Newport , said two strangers then came to help him.
12 stitches
Kyle, who works at Car Shop, in Cardiff’s Penarth Road, was given 12 stitches at the University Hospital of Wales, but then discharged himself.
He said: “When I went home I felt really ill, my face started swelling and my granddad said I should go to the hospital.”
This time he went to the Royal Gwent, in Newport.
“I had a fracture on the top of my skull,” he said.
“They were going to move me to the Heath because I had swelling on the brain. I was under 24-hour observation.
“They had to keep on checking me and were giving me lots of tablets. I asked if I could go home and they said, ‘Only if there was someone to watch me.’”
“All over £40,” Kyle said.
“I know people have died as a result of even less – just a punch.”
Facebook post
Almost 3,000 people have shared pictures and comments Kyle wrote about the attack on his Facebook page urging people to stay “in heavily populated areas” and “don’t trust anyone”.
More than 500 have commented about it.
South Wales Police were contacted but had not responded at the time of writing.
The force’s Inspector Stephen Trigg previously told the South Wales Argus: “We attended a call from ambulance that a male was bleeding from the head at Mary Ann Street, Cardiff, reporting he had been the victim of a robbery.
“We have made no arrests and are appealing for leads on the incident.
“Our investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have seen anything or has any information in relation to the incident should come forward.”
Kyle described the alleged attacker as white, about 6ft, wearing black trousers and trainers. He had short, possibly brown, hair and stubble and was aged 26-27.
