Sion Carl Roberts, 25, said came to North Wales after being released from prison - because that was the destination on his travel warrant
A homeless man will spend Christmas in a cell rather than sleeping on the streets after his wish to go to jail was granted by the courts.
Sion Carl Roberts pleaded guilty at Llandudno magistrates court to smashing a window at the town’s Neighbourhood Drop-In Centre, causing £250 worth of damage.
It happened at 1am on Wednesday and prosecutor James Neary said the 25 year-old told police he wanted to be taken into custody because he was homeless.
Roberts admitted causing criminal damage.
During the hearing, he was also re-sentenced for a malicious communications offence when he phoned Merseyside police from outside Arrowe Park Hospital last and falsely claimed he had a knife.
Am armed response unit was sent to arrest him on that occasion and he was eventually sentenced to a community order.
'Very sad'
His solicitor Alex Fitzgerald told the court yesterday: “He’s asking the court to send him to prison. He’s a young man at a very low ebb and he knows he can’t get help when living in the street.
”He can’t cope on the streets and has been beaten up recently. He’s not a brawler but very much a victim of others. It’s very sad.”
Mr Fitzgerald added that when Roberts was released from jail recently he didn’t want to go to North Wales, but that was the destination on his travel warrant.
“He realises he needs some help regarding his lifestyle and accommodation and will try to get it while in custody.
“He knows he’s a burden to the police and prison service but wants to sort himself out. He is aware that he has broken the window of a charity centre.”
Roberts, unemployed, was jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay £250 compensation for the window and £115 costs.
