Ellen Horne, who had pleaded guilty to attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, was jailed for 12 months
A mum-of-three wept as she was jailed for sending sexually explicit pictures to someone she thought was a 14-year-old boy.
Ellen Horne, 46, thought she was corresponding with a boy who liked older women.
The images included one of her performing a sex act on an unknown adult male.
Yet she was really in contact with paedophile Stuart Bailey
On Tuesday, Bailey and a different woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of conspiracy to rape the unnamed woman’s seven-year-old daughter.
Despite being heard in October, Horne’s separate case can only be reported now Bailey and the unnamed woman have been convicted.
Horne thought she was messaging a teenager
At Horne’s sentencing hearing, Cardiff Crown Court heard that during the police investigation of Bailey they discovered he had been in frequent contact with her.
She met him through the Plenty of Fish dating website and knew him as Steve.
The two had met up, but Bailey had subsequently given Horne another email address which was said to belong to a 14-year-old boy called Sam.
And the court heard Horne had believed she was then in contact with a teenager.
But “Sam” was fictional and had been invented by Bailey who told Horne the “youngster” liked older women.
Horne later admitted to police she had sent sexually explicit picture messages to “Sam” while believing him to be aged 14. She pleaded guilty to attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
Prosecutors said Horne’s email exchange with “Sam”, most of which dated to a single week of July last year, showed a record of a sexual conversation between them.
They included a request from “Sam” for any pictures from her.
Among the messages were suggestions the two meet up and the discussion of a threesome with “Steve”.
And they included the image of Horne.
A sentencing hearing on October 10 – which for legal reasons can only now be reported – was told Horne now wished she could go back to the life she had before meeting Bailey.
But, jailing her, Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Rees told Horne: “Had that been a real 14-year-old it doesn’t take much to understand what a corrupting influence a woman in your position might have made of that.”
The judge told her it was “shocking” she had not stopped to think about the abuse of children – and also said the case acted as “a cautionary tale to those who engage with these dating websites”.
Horne, of Bradford Street, Caerphilly , had earlier pleaded guilty to attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
She was handed a 12-month prison sentence and also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
In the other case, Bailey, of Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd, and the unnamed woman were both found guilty by a jury of conspiracy to rape a child under 13.
They will both be sentenced in the new year
