THREE men a judge said were all involved in the supply of cocaine, were arrested after they raised suspicions by buying knives from a Tesco store in Swansea.
Lee Bird, aged 28, Zeeshan Raja 18, and Dirie Abdullahi Haaji, aged 21 were spotted together at Tesco in Oystermouth Road on the evening of August 8, buying three kitchen knives.
But Swansea Crown Court was told their behaviour 'gave rise to concern' and police were contacted.
The trio left the store by taxi, which was followed by police officers who then stopped the vehicle.
Summing up the trial, Recorder Paul Hopkins QC said: "Officers spoke to you Lee Bird and asked if you had a knife.
"You said 'I have just bought a knife for my house, so what?' indicating a bag which contained three knives. It is significant in my judgement that one had already been removed from the packaging".
Haaji, of Snells Park in London, was found to have a mobile phone, which rang several times as they spoke to officers, while Raja, of Robert Street in Manselton, was discovered in possession of eight cling film packages of crack cocaine, totalling 1.83 grams in weight.

Lee, of Maes Lan in Llansamlet, was also found to have £208 in cash.
Recorder Paul Hopkins added: "You answered questions [in police interview but you lied to police and endeavoured to mislead them".
Haaji's phone was also examined and found to contain a number of texts relating to the sale or stock of drugs.
"Each of you had a role in this enterprise", said Recorder Paul Hopkins.
"One of you had a knife, one of you had a 'dirty' phone, and one of you had drugs".
Sentencing, he described Haaji as having a 'disturbing record for a young man' and told Raji: "you are still a young man, on the brink of throwing away your life it seems.
"You have previous convictions and you know the sentences the court gives for Class A drugs".
Haaji and Raja had both pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply, but Bird had pleaded not guilty to possessing a bladed article, but had been found guilty by a jury.
Haaji was jailed for four years, while Bird was sentenced to a total of four years ten months. Raja was sentenced to two years four months in a young offenders' institute.
