Stuart Bailey, 54, and the mother – who cannot be named – planned the sex attack on the girl in a series of text messages
A mum has been found guilty of plotting to let a paedophile rape her seven-year-old daughter.
Stuart Bailey, 54, and the mother – who cannot be named – planned the sex attack on the girl in a series of text messages.
A court heard the mum also sent Bailey a naked photo of her daughter and bought sleeping tablets to drug her.
Bailey and the mother exchanged dozens of “horrific” messages and phone calls plotting the sexual assault of the seven-year-old.
Prosecutor Jim Davis said Bailey sent the mother messages asking her to “tart up” her daughter and asked “can we abuse her?”, and “does she have a short skirt?”.
Mr Davis read the messages from Bailey to Cardiff Crown Court.
"They could be vile and disgusting things to see how far I could push them"
They included: “Let me do as I please.” And: “What is she wearing? Is she in school uniform?”
The court heard Bailey and the mum were caught when the woman’s partner found the messages on her phone and called police.
Bailey denied any wrongdoing and told the court he “got a thrill” out of sending “vile and disgusting” messages.
He told the jury: “It was a thrill waiting for the reaction they gave me.
“Some things I would think of in the night to text in the morning to see their reaction.
“They could be vile and disgusting things to see how far I could push them.
The mother claimed that she was being blackmailed and bullied by Bailey and threatened her with physical violence.
Bailey and the woman were found guilty of conspiracy to rape a child under 13.
Bailey, of Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd, was also found guilty of encouraging the distribution of indecent photographs of a child, and encouraging the sexual assault of a child.
"Extensive investigation"
The judge, Recorder of Cardiff Eleri Rees QC remanded the pair in custody ahead of sentence next year.
Detective Inspector Dean Llewellyn of South Wales Police’s Major Crime unit said : “Today’s verdict follows an extensive investigation into a very harrowing crime.
“Our work to protect vulnerable children will not let up and today’s verdict is further proof that those who engage in this type of criminality will be caught and brought to justice.
Detective Superintendent Kath Pritchard added: “Today's verdict should act as a strong message to online offenders and potential offenders that protecting the vulnerable is our priority of priorities and we will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.
“Our focus is firmly on victims needs and improving outcomes for victims whilst also increasing the number of offenders brought to justice.
“We are warning people who are viewing sexually explicit images of children that the next knock at their door could be from the police.”
