William Martin Tate has been jailed for the attack that caused £1,500 worth of damage
A drunk who trashed a BMW and assaulted the car’s owner has been jailed,
William Martin Tate, 30, of Ffordd Ysgubor Goch, Caernarfon, admitted common assault and a public order offence against Kenneth Jones and causing criminal damage to his BMW.
It was claimed Tate and an alleged accomplice trashed the car which was being offered for sale.
James Neary, prosecuting at Llandudno court, said the car had its windscreen and panels damaged and it had to be written off at a cost of £1,500.
The incident occurred last month when Mr Jones was confronted by the defendant and another man.
Both men were drunk and aggressive, said Mr Neary, and Mr Jones feared he could be badly hurt.
They started to hurl objects at the car but fortunately Mr Jones’s sister was able to alert police.
Andrew Scott, defending, said Tate accepted that he had been drinking and took a pragmatic view of the outcome of his appearance in court.
Tate was jailed for eight weeks, which will be concurrent to his recall to prison after being released following an earlier offence.
He was ordered to pay a £500 share of compensation to Mr Jones for damage to the car, and also £250 for which court chairwoman Suzanne Dixon described as the distress caused to the victim.
With costs it means a total bill of £950, to be deducted from his benefits.
The second man is facing a more serious allegation and his case is due to be heard in the crown court.
