Police carried out a drugs raid in Penrhyndeudraeth and seized a quantity of drugs
Two youths have been arrested in connection with pink teddy bear ecstasy tablets which left a man seriously ill in hospital.
Police have executed a drugs warranted in Penrhyndeudraeth and a number of controlled drugs were seized.
It comes after two men were hospitalised after apparently taking the drugs in Gwynedd over the weekend.
One of the men became “extremely ill” and had to be treated in intensive care.
A North Wales Police statement said: “As a result of an investigation into an incident in south Gwynedd at the weekend in which two young people fell ill after taking what are thought to be ‘Pink Teddy Bear’ ecstasy tablets, North Wales Police have arrested two youths.”
Inspector Dewi Jones added: “As a result of ongoing investigation into this matter a warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Penrhyndeudraeth and a quantity of controlled drugs were seized. Two male youths have been arrested and are currently in custody.”
Yesterday, the force issued a warning to youngsters to be aware of the dangers of taking class A drugs.
Both of the men affected by the tablets have been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home with their families.
District Sergeant Matt Geddes at Porthmadog Police Station said: “It is important to warn young people of the inherent dangers of taking controlled drugs and I would strongly urge those who supply or use ‘pink teddy bears’ in particular to think hard about what they are doing and to stop immediately."
He added: “The family of the, initially, extremely ill young man are hugely grateful of the medical care their son received and relieved the outcome is positive however they’d hate to see other families going through the same pain and so are fully supportive of what we are trying to do and in warning people and identifying the suppliers.
“We continue to work with our partners to highlight the dangers of drug abuse and under Operation Scorpion we actively target those concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.”
Anyone with information about this incident or the supply of drugs in south Gwynedd is asked to contact PC2461 Lisa Jones at Porthmadog CID on 101.
