Were the Youth caught who egged his car? As in fairness they caused the incident?
Cameron Lattuca pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and has received an interim driving ban
A 17-year-old boy whose car had been pelted with eggs drove on to the pavement and badly hurt an innocent schoolboy, a court heard.
The driver, Cameron Lattuca, now 18, of Tanyrallt, Mochdre, Colwyn Bay, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious injury to the boy of 16, last April.
Magistrates at Llandudno adjourned sentence so a report can be obtained from the probation service, and an interim driving ban was imposed.
Alun Humphreys, prosecuting, said that earlier that evening eggs had been thrown by a group of youths at Lattuca’s Ford Fiesta parked near Llandudno Junction station and he had given chase on foot but been unable to catch those responsible.
Just after 11.20pm, near the Tesco roundabout, a number of eggs were thrown which struck his car.
Youths near the Tesco exit had been responsible.
The 16-year-old victim had been with others between the Tesco and Daily Post roundabouts when the Fiesta’s nearside wheels mounted the pavement.
The boy may have tripped, and the car’s wheels passed over his pelvis.
Mr Humphreys said: “The victim wasn’t part of the group who had been throwing eggs. It’s not sure whether he was even aware of what had taken place.”
Two girls who were passengers in the car told Lattuca he had hit someone.
Lattuca kept asking “Did I hit someone?” and after dropping passengers he went back to the scene.
Mr Humphreys said the victim had been in great pain, and had been treated at an orthopaedic unit at Stoke on Trent for his injuries.
In an impact statement the boy said that apart from pelvic injuries he’d broken a bone at the bottom of his back. He didn’t know how complete his recovery would be and feared for his career and as a soccer player. “My whole world collapsed,” he stated.
Mr Humphreys said Lattuca had described to police that after going around the roundabout he’d “come under attack – a number of eggs breaking on the car, including the front windscreen.
“He said he used his wipers but this only seemed to obscure his vision. He feared for his and his passengers’ safety and wanted to get away and drove on.”
He hadn’t believed at the time he had hit anyone.
Mr Humphreys said when the Fiesta was examined there was found to be egg contamination.
Defence barrister Sarah Badrawy said Lattuca, an apprentice chef, regretted what had happened and accepted he had caused the injury.
She said: “He accepts he should have stopped when his vision and visibility was impaired by the action of others. He had not mounted the pavement deliberately.”
