Rhyl,North Wales - Driver more than 23 TIMES cocaine limit when stopped by police in Rhyl

Andrew Morris was also nearly double the drink-drive limit when driving his BMW in Vale Road

A driver who was stopped by police in Rhyl was nearly double the drink-drive limit, and more than 23 times the limit for cocaine, a court heard.
Andrew Morris also had more than 20 times the limit of benzoylecgonine – a compound of the drug – in his system, when he was driving his BMW in Vale Road, Rhyl.
Morris pleaded guilty to three charges, to driving with excess alcohol and driving while impaired by cocaine and benzoylecgonine, when he appeared at Llandudno magistrates’ court.
Justin Espie, prosecuting, said Morris, 34, had been stopped after a call had been made to police about a possible drink-driver.
However, the prosecutor told the court: “There’s no suggestion of adverse driving.”
A probation officer explained that Morris, of Robin Way, Woodchurch, Birkenhead, shared living with his grandmother in Wirral and a partner at Abergele. He was not working and had debts of £5,000.
Morris had said he started to take cannabis at the age of 15 and that he now took cocaine monthly.
The probation officer’s recommendation was that he should be considered for a drug rehabilitation programme.
Defence solicitor Bethan Williams agreed that “readings were unusually high” but explained that weekend he had been laid off.
He was seeking help for substance misuse “but drugs are not impacting in the same way as alcohol”.
She added: “He apologises to the court.”
District Judge Gwyn Jones, who sat with two magistrates, bailed Morris for sentence later this month, to obtain input from the Wirral probation service.
Imposing an interim driving ban, he reminded Morris: “All sentencing options are open.”
