Pontypool,South Wales - Sports club devastated after children's Christmas presents were stolen

The presents were donated by members of Pontnewynydd Cricket Club and were wrapped by volunteers

A cricket club said it has been inundated with support from the local community after thieves broke in and stole three sacks full of children’s toys.
The toys were all donated by members of Pontnewynydd Cricket Club in Pontypool and were due to be given out to the children at the club’s Christmas party on Friday.
Every child member of the club was due to receive a gift.
Pontnewynydd Cricket Club was broken into and three sacks of children's presents were stolen.
The club’s stewardess Claire Luter, 46, said: “I had a phone call to say the alarm was going off. When we arrived we saw that three of the four sacks of presents had been stolen.
“They did try the door and see if they could get further inside but I think the alarm scared them off.
“The presents had all been wrapped by volunteers and put into sacks based on the age of the children for the party.”
The club is a central part of the community and regularly puts on events like bingo nights and screens the rugby on international days. They rely on volunteers as they only charge £5 a year for membership.
In just five hours after the club broke the news of the break-in, it was inundated with calls and support from the local area.

'We have a beautiful community here'

“We have such a beautiful community here” said Claire. “Since we put it on Facebook people have been ringing to offer support and donations. People from Cwmbran, that are not immediately involved, have rung and offered donations.”
A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “At 9.50am this morning, December 6, we received a report that Pontnewynydd Cricket Club had been broken into.
“A number of Christmas presents were stolen.
“Enquiries are being undertaken, anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log number 115 06/12/16.”
