Llandudno,North Wales - Obsessed Conwy mum's affair with teen led boy to threaten suicide

Rachel Elizabeth Marshall, 42, of Narrow Lane, Llandudno Junction, had sex with the boy in a car park and at her home

An obsessed “model mum” whose sexual affair with a teenage boy left him paranoid and threatening suicide has been jailed.
Rachel Elizabeth Marshall, of Narrow Lane, Llandudno Junction, had sex with the boy in a car park at the Sychnant Pass and at her home.
The court heard the “relentless” 42-year-old, who was jailed for three years and four months, became “fixated” with him, telling him she was pregnant and sending a message to his girlfriend which said: “You are both f***ing dead.”
Marshall admitted four charges of sexual activity and two of meeting a child after sexual grooming at Caernarfon Crown Court today.
The offences were said to have been committed between October 1, 2014, and the end of February last year.
Prosecutor Simon Rogers said the relationship started when she sent “flirtatious” texts to the boy and asked him to go for a drive.
“They went to a car park at the Sychnant Pass in Conwy,” said Mr Rogers.
“During the journey, she spoke about the difficulties she was having in the relationship with her husband.”
The court heard matters escalated and, from November to February, they were having “almost weekly” sex in her car and once at her home.
Mr Rogers said the boy had cried at her home because he felt uncomfortable.
Marshall started to give him amounts of money between £20 and £200, and bought him gifts such as aftershave and an iPhone 6.
“Her behaviour began to freak him out,” said Mr Rogers.
“She wouldn’t leave him alone; constantly messaging him. He wanted to stop what was going on but she wouldn’t.
“She would send naked photographs of herself to him. She was relentless.”
The boy then met a girl of his own age, but Marshall told him she was pregnant and sent him a scan.
She also went to the boy’s home and left a message saying: “I will wait all day.”
Mr Rogers said: “She also sent messages to the girlfriend saying: ‘You are both f***ing dead.’”
Marshall, a shoe shop worker, told the girl’s parents that the boy was “a nasty piece of work” and that she should stay away from him.
The messages only came to an end when the girl broke up with the complainant, the court heard.
In January this year, police visited Marshall’s address after the boy broke down at school, kicking walls and telling a teacher: “You won’t understand. It’s a big thing.”
The boy said Marshall had tried to “ruin his life” and had set up different social media accounts to that effect.
Mr Rogers said the boy had achieved far lower GCSE grades than expected, and his relationship with his mother had been affected.
The matter had made him paranoid and he had spoken about suicide.
Defending barrister Sion ap Mihangel said Marshall accepted her guilt and was “deeply sorry”, but did not accept that she had been a “predator”.
The defendant was a “model” mum-of-two until a breakdown in her relationship with her husband.
Mr ap Mihangel said: “She has literally lost everything; her job, home and the relationship with her children has broken down.”
He added that Marshall had become unexpectedly pregnant since her arrest, and said the child would be born in prison and stay there for 18 months, after which it would be cared for by her family.
Judge Peter Heywood said Marshall was on medication that could have had some effect on her behaviour.
“What he engaged in with you has had a disastrous effect on him,” he said.
“The fact is that he was threatening to take his own life.
“You engaged in serious criminal conduct. You knew this young man’s age and you took advantage of this situation for your own desires.”
Marshall was banned from working with children and will remain on the sex offenders register indefinetely.
A Sexual Prevention Order was enforced to stop her from contacting the boy in the future.
