The masked robbers burst into Gregory's on Mostyn Street to steal expensive watches
A gang of “machete-wielding” masked robbers terrified staff as they raided a jewellery shop.
Police are hunting for the four men who burst into Gregory’s on Mostyn Street, Llandudno, this afternoon.
They smashed glass cabinets to steal a number of expensive watches before fleeing in what is believed to be a grey BMW car.
Armed police and a helicopter were spotted searching for the vehicle and its occupants as shoppers told of their shock, with one witness saying the robbers shouted “go, go, go” as they stormed the shop.
Others told how the men were armed with machetes – however North Wales Police have not confirmed if any weapons were involved.
Shop owner Gregory Narey said nobody was hurt during the ordeal but his staff have been left “very shaken”.
He added: “Four members of staff were in the shop at the time and were very shaken up – it was very scary.
“The perpetrators made off with some expensive watches. We are insured, but our main concern is the smashed glass as well as the damage to fittings and furnishings.
“The four men were fully kitted out in black from head to toe and couldn't be identified at all. I’d like to thank the police for their help, but the most important thing, as I said, was that no-one was hurt.”
Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders labelled the incident as “sickening”.
She said: “I was shocked to learn whilst I was in the Senedd, Cardiff Bay, that Gregory’s Jewellers has been subjected to such an horrific robbery.
“Whilst I am relieved that Greg and his team have not been physically injured, the sickening impact of such a potentially dangerous attack cannot be understated.
“This is a long established family business with an amazing staff team. This will come as a huge blow, in particular at this time before the busy Christmas period.”
She added: “I shall certainly do my best to support them in any way so that we can see this business ready and open again very quickly.
“I hope that those responsible for the robbery will be caught and that legal proceedings will proceed. I wish North Wales Police all the best with their enquiries and would urge anyone who might have witnessed the robbery to contact them immediately.”
Appealing for witnesses, detective inspector Iwan Roberts said: “We believe the offenders may have left the area in a grey BMW. A number of witnesses have come forward and we are appealing to anyone else who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the vicinity at the time of the incident to contact police.”
“No-one was injured, but the shop assistants were left shocked.”
