A married mum attacked her lover in what he described as a scene “like Fatal Attraction” and used a milk bottle to knock out his teeth.
Jodie Hargreaves, 41, was having an affair with 62-year-old Robert Newbury.
A court heard the couple met at a local pub and struck up a “toxic” affair lasting several months.
On Christmas Eve last year Hargreaves visited Mr Newbury who said he was feeling unwell.
So Hargreaves banged and kicked on his front door until he opened it and then launched a vicious attack.
'Drenched in blood'
Prosecutor Ieuan Rees said Hargreaves punched him two or three times and knocked his tooth out.
He said: “He tried to get past her but she picked up a glass milk bottle and hit him with it two or three times.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Mr Newbury was drenched in blood when he ran to a nearby shop to raise the alarm.
Mr Rees said: “He was covered in blood at that stage and shouting help me, help me.”
Mr Newbury suffered three wounds to his left hand, lost one tooth completely and partially lost another one. He also cut his tooth and injured his nose.
'Toxic relationship'
Nigel Fryer, defending, said the pair were having an affair that was a “toxic relationship on both sides”.
He said: “She is an extremely anxious individual, who suffers from issues of jealousy. She apologises profusely.”
Mr Fryer added: “This is a serious matter, one she is not proud of. One that had clearly arisen because of her involvement in an affair, an affair that was not good for her overall mental health. One that she felt there was further infidelity on the part of Mr Newbury.”
Mum-of-one Hargreaves, of Presli Close, Risca, near Newport , pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The judge, Recorder Nicholas Gareth Jones, handed her a 10 month suspended sentence.
'Like a scene from Fatal Attraction'
Speaking after the sentence, Mr Newbury said: “She was the sweetest lady to begin with but then she showed her dark side.
“She hit me over the head with a milk bottle and knocked my teeth out. It was like a scene out of the film Fatal Attraction.
“She wanted for us to go out shopping but I had been unwell and couldn’t go. She was extremely jealous person and would say ‘I don’t want you talking to any other women.
“I hope whoever she ends up with keeps out of her way and makes sure there are no milk bottles around.
“She told the police I had attacked myself and hit myself with the bottle but eventually she pleaded guilty.”
Fatal Attraction is a 1987 American psychological thriller film starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close about a married man having an affair but the woman refuses to let it end.
