Police have said that a 20-year-old man was arrested at an address in Castleton on Wednesday morning
A country lane was closed and there is a large police presence at a property on the outskirts of Cardiff .
It is understood that the police activity is linked to the deaths of a man and a woman in Cardiff city centre on Wednesday morning.
The lane that was closed off is just off the busy A48 road between Cardiff and Newport.
Witnesses said there are police cars and a van parked down the lane.
A police cordon was put in place and was lifted shortly after 3pm.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said police had been stationed at the lane since around 6.30am.
A woman in the Coach and Horses pub said police had been stationed in the lane "for hours".
She added: "Police have been in and out all day using the facilities but they didn't really tell us anything."
South Wales Police said that a 20-year-old man from the Castleton area had been arrested in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman in Queen Street, Cardiff, at approximately 5.50am today.
He was arrested with the assistance of Gwent police officers, at an address in Castleton, within an hour of the incident being reported. He is currently detained in Cardiff Bay police station.
Police are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
The families of the two people who died are receiving support from specialist officers and an incident room has been set up.
Post mortem examinations will be carried out to determine the causes of the deaths. At this stage it is believed that they sustained stab wounds.
