A ‘death threat’ against a 15-year-old schoolboy in graffiti was left up for four months even though the school was redecorated.
A mother fears for her son’s safety because the warning: “F*** you all I’m going to kill ***** ******” was scrawled on a cubicle door in the boys’ toilets.
Despite the high school spending hundreds of pounds on decorating classrooms and buildings over the summer holidays, the graffiti threat put up in May, the teenager’s mother said it was still there when he returned for classes.
'He thinks it's normal now to be bullied'
The 15-year-old is a pupil at St Martin’s School in Caerphilly where his mum claims he has been a victim of bullying for four years.
She said: “My son thinks it’s normal now to be bullied for so long.
“He came home with a photo of the graffiti on May 19 but we were told there was no budget to paint over the threat - despite the fact the school has spent thousands of pounds on painting this summer.”
The mum said the threat was still on the toilet door when her son returned for classes on September 5. It was finally removed after she phoned the school to complain.
'Beaten up and choked'
She said: “He has been beaten up and choked in the past.
“I don’t understand why it’s taken three months for them to remove the death threat.
“I just want my son to be treated normally like any other child. It’s incredibly hard - I can’t keep seeing him like this.
“He loves to learn, he’s polite but he says he finds the bullying normal. It’s horrendous. No one seems to care.
“The school thinks that the situation is over - because the message was removed that’s it. But no one has asked how my son is. No one has apologised.”
'Thorough investigation'
St Martin’s headteacher Lee Jarvis insisted the school was carrying out a “thorough investigation”.
He said: “I would like to ensure pupils, parents and the wider school community that St Martin’s is a caring and supportive school.
“We strive to create a learning environment where everyone can feel safe, respected, valued, and confident that bullying will not be tolerated.
“In this particular case we are carrying out a thorough investigation and we are also working closely with the pupil concerned to provide appropriate care and support.
“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and there will be serious repercussions for those held responsible.”
