A fundraiser whose tent was burnt down by yobs when he was in the middle of a 2,795 mile charity walk, is set to complete his challenge ahead of schedule.
Starting from his Plymouth home, Alan Watkins made his way around the country to raking in cash for HELP (Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads) Appeal.
But when he arrived in Prestatyn, his tent was destroyed by firebugs with just 595 miles to go, leaving him unsure as to whether or not he could continue on.
However, after telling the Daily Post of his plight, kind-hearted locals rallied round to helpand donations to the cause soared.
Craig Stockton from Rhosesmor-based Sherratt Landscape Contractors Ltd even bought the 53-year-old a new tent and some new camping provisions.
Alan has so far raised £1,520 for the HELP appeal in five months since starting his journey, which he is expected to complete in a matter of weeks.
He said: “The coast to coast walk was a tough challenge, but raising money for such a worthwhile cause kept my spirits and motivation high throughout the five months – even after my little bump in the road in Prestatyn.
