Mold Crown Court
A Colwyn Bay man has today (Wednesday, April 6) been cleared of raping a woman.
But he was jailed for 44 weeks after he admitted a physical assault upon her.
Defendant Michael Ineson, 29, of Rhiw Road in Colwyn Bay, had previous convictions for assaulting women, Mold Crown Court was told.
A jury cleared Ineson of rape and a charge of sexual assault by penetration.
But he was made the subject of a five year restraining order not to contact her or enter the area where she lives.
He received 38 weeks for the ABH and a further six weeks for failing to turn up in court on an earlier occasion.
Judge Rhys Rowlands said he had no doubt that Ineson was a controlling bully and a risk to women.
“You have a record for assaulting women,” he said.
On this occasion his victim was a vulnerable young woman who he had sought to bully and control that weekend.
He prevented her from leaving the premises and assaulted her.
“You pushed her more than once, you grabbed her ears and her hair, and threw her head against a head board,” the judge said.
She had not been in a position to defend herself in any way.
The assault had been sustained in nature and she had been left with unpleasant injuries, not just physical.
“She was in a dreadful state as a result of what you did to her that day,” the judge said.
Prosecuting barrister Simon Rogers said it was alleged that Ineson had raped the woman after physically assaulting her.
The defendant punched her to the arm and stomach, put his hand over her mouth, grabbed her by her hair and ears, and smashed her head against the head board.
Simon Killeen, defending, said that the rape charge was totally denied.
