A TEENAGER has been left devastated after a vandal tipped paint thinner over her car causing a thousand pounds worth of damage.
Abi Jones, 18, of Bryn Offa in Mynydd Isa, said she was left heartbroken after a paint and varnish remover was thrown across her car while it was parked at her boyfriend’s home on Bryn Awelon in Buckley.
Miss Jones said she has been told that the cost to fix it will be more than £1,000 – money she cannot afford to pay.
She said: “The whole thing was awful because obviously it is my first car and I saved up for months to buy it and the insurance is really high.
“To work really hard to get this and then for it to be damaged like this it is really quite shocking to see.
“I have been left with this massive sum.”
Miss Jones said her car was extremely important to her as she uses it to get to and from her job with Daffodils, a charity for disabled children and young adults, and also uses it to complete work where she will take disabled children out for the day, giving their parents and carers a break and giving the child a day of fun.
Miss Jones, who is due to start a learning disability nursing course in September, said she was in the house with her boyfriend when the incident is believed to have taken place.
She said: “We were all in the house at the time but it was the next morning I realised what had happened.
“They poured paint stripper all over the top and behind of my car and it is really damaged because of it.
“We called the police straight away but there is no evidence to link anyone in particular to the incident at the moment.”
Miss Jones said her boyfriend’s dad had heard a disturbance at around 10.30pm on Monday night but they cannot be certain that this was the time the incident happened.
She said she is unable to go through her insurance to help pay for the damage because it would cause her car to be a write-off and would lead to a large increase in her premiums.
Her mum Sharon Downey added: “It is believed to be a targeted attack on her car.
“Police are involved and CCTV cameras within the area are still being looked over to see if the criminal can be identified.
“This is hugely devastating for Abi.”
A North Wales Police spokesman said they were aware of the incident and asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference RC16131293
