A RESIDENT has called for improved security after yet another car arson on the estate where she lives.
Jackie Gabriel, said she was woken up by the attack at the back of her house and called the fire service.
She said: “The fire service came and put it all out but it was very dramatic. There was thick black smoke everywhere and big flames. It was quite scary.”
Ms Gabriel added that morale on the Caia Park estate was low because of the ongoing problem.
“I have quite a few friends on the estate and everybody’s the same. We’re all fed up,” she said.
“My daughter’s car was out there too, so I’m concerned for my family, but the cars were right by the wooden fences as well, so they could have gone up.
“It could have been a lot worse. I think there needs to be increased security in that area, such as CCTV cameras.”
One fire crew from Wrexham was sent to tackle the fire in the Crossways area of Caia Park shortly after 3.45am yesterday.
The flames were extinguished using two hosereel jets and nobody was injured, but the car was completely gutted by the fire.
Police are now making inquiries into the incident.
Cllr Marc Jones, chairman of Caia Park Community Council, said: “It’s very disappointing that arsonists seem to have struck again without any thought for people’s safety or property.
“Caia Park Community Council has done all it can within our limited powers to make this matter a priority and hopefully combined work with the police and others can track down the culprits and prevent further attacks.”
A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We were called to a car fire on an unnamed road behind the Crossways in Caia Park at 3.52am.
“The fire service was also in attendance. House-to-house inquiries were conducted and are continuing in the area.”
Anyone with information about the fire is urged to call North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference U049429.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers Wales anonymously on 0800 555 111
