THE family of Holyhead manslaughter victim Dave Jones have said that no sentence would ever be justice for them.
Reading a statement outside court on Tuesday, widow Amanda Jones’ brother Justin McGrady read a statement on behalf of the family – including their four children.
Last December, Garrod killed pub landlord Mr Jones, aged 46, at The Blossoms Pub at Holyhead, and then climbed up onto a rooftop.
Garrod was sentenced to life with a minimum of eight years on Tuesday.
Mr McGrady said the family were pleased that the court process had come to an end.
“However, the sentence of Peter Garrod will never be justice to our family as it will never bring Dave back.
“No sentence would ever be justice for us.”
He said that not only had the family had to come to terms with losing Dave in such a brutal way, they had the agony of having to wait until today for closure.
“This has put a massive strain on us,” he said.
“We have been unable to grief properly with this constantly hanging over us.”
He said that the family felt that the court process had been very one sided in favour of the defendant and had not taken them fully into consideration as the victim’s family.
“We have had to go through a range of emotions and while to everyone else today may appear as though this is the end, for us this is just a start.
They would soon have the anniversary of Dave’s death which was going to be an extremely difficult time.
He said that they would like people to remember Dave for himself and not for him to be labelled as a pub landlord.
“He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend to many,” he said.
“No words can ever explain how amazing he was.
“He was a great family man and out rock and through no fault of his own he has been taken away from us.
“He is going to miss so many things in life. He will miss all of his children growing up and the milestones which we as a family will go through.
“We now have to face all these things without him.”
