Swansea,South Wales - Thieves steal stuffed antique chicken by throwing it through Wind Street bar window

  • Harry the chicken (right, in white) where he lives on top of the bar in Flickering Light

WHY did the chicken cross the road? Because he was thrown out of the window...
That's the fate which befell a much-loved antique stuffed foul, one of two whose home is in the bar of Wind Street bar, Flickering Light.
The white Leghorn was bought at auction near Carmarthen fifteen years ago by Noah Redfern, co-owner of the bar along with former Swansea and Tongan rugby player Sililo Martens, who put him on top of the eye-catching bar, fashioned out of a former truck.
But its popularity has made it a target, when a pair of customers made off with it, after first taking it down from the bar to dance with, before one threw it out the window to the other standing in the street below.

Noah said: "I've had the chicken, which we call Harry, for some time before I decided to put it in the bar. I'd bought it at an auction just because I liked the look of it. They're quite hard to get hold of, because I don't think they're a favourite for taxidermists to stuff. It's probably about forty years old, but its become part of the furniture in the bar.

"Staff only discovered it was gone the next day, and we checked CCTV and discovered what had happened."
The images from the club's security cameras, some of which can be seen below, show that one of the customers had taken Harry from the bar, and was dancing with it, before he takes it to the window and throws it through, to be caught by an accomplice standing on the pavement.Noah said: "It looks like he is using the chicken in an attempt to woo some women. He's dancing with it for about ten minutes, and it seems he gets a friend to go outside, and then throws it to him. He then leaves the bar himself. We've spoken to police about it, but obviously they have far more serious things to investigate. But we are very keen to get Harry back."
The theft of Harry took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 19, and the suspects are described as white males, in their mid to late twenties. And the appeal for his return comes with a promise no further action will be taken.
