BURGLARS stole a high performance car worth about £20,000 in a targeted raid.
The raiders took a blue 2009 Ford Focus RS Mk 2 belonging to Mal Hughes, of Johnstown, after smashing their way through patio doors.
Police told Mr Hughes they believe it could have been a targeted attack because other items at the house were left largely untouched.
The car, which has the distinctive numberplate T321 EFC because Mr Hughes is a big Everton FC fan, was believed to be taken from his home at about 10am on Tuesday.
Mr Hughes, who was in Liverpool about to watch Everton take on Norwich in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday when he learned of the theft, said: “It is a high performance car so the police are saying it might have been targeted. It happened early yesterday morning.
“My partner is a school teacher so we were away for a couple of days.
“We were in Liverpool yesterday and were just about to have some tea before we went to the Everton match when I got a call from one of my neighbours.
“We dropped everything and came straight back. From 5pm yesterday [Tuesday] until now it has been complete turmoil.
“It looks like they went through the drawers looking specifically for the car keys. In the same drawer there was a little bag with about 200 euros in it but they haven’t touched it.
“It was a big shock to come home to. It’s only because my next door neighbours saw the glass was smashed in the window that they spotted something was wrong.”
Mr Hughes said officers from North Wales Police told him the car was spotted in the Overton area following the theft along with the vehicle believed to have been used by the burglars.
He asked anyone who might have seen anything suspicious or spotted the car to call police on 101, quoting reference RC5164846.
