An injured seal pup which may have been bitten by a dog has been rescued by the RSPCA.
A member of the public found the wounded young pup at the back of a beach near a footpath at Rhosneigr on Anglesey .
They immediately called the RSPCA who saved the stricken animal.
RSPCA inspector, Mike Pugh said: “The seal, who is probably around three weeks old, was found to have some infected wounds.
“She also had a slight nasal discharge. She may possibly have been bitten by a dog, due to the type of puncture wounds she had.
“Despite her injuries she was otherwise bright, and has been transferred to a facility where she will receive treatment and rehabilitation.”
Grey seal breeding seasons can differs depending on geographical location. In Wales the season is typically August to November.
Inspector Pugh added: “It is now the time of the year when newborn grey seal pups can be found on the beaches and our message to the public and their dogs is to stay away.
“People should not interfere with a seal on a beach.
“Dog walkers should also be vigilant if they walk their dogs near seal hotspots.”A spokesman for the animal charity said the pup was “obviously in distress” but may not have been abandoned.
He added: “If you find a seal pup that looks fit and healthy and shows no signs of distress monitor it first from a safe distance for 24 hours.
“Please don’t touch seal pups, as they can give a nasty bite, and keep dogs and other animals away from them.
