WREXHAM’s town centre inspector says officers are doing “everything we can” to bring arsonists to justice.
Insp Simon Kneale says he will prioritise a clampdown on arson, after seven vehicles were blitzed in Hightown over the weekend.
Cars were left severely damaged after yobs set fire to them in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Insp Kneale said he expected those responsible for Saturday’s attack to be caught and dealt with sooner rather than later.
Saturday’s arson came after eight cars were set alight in the
Hightown area in a similar attack in June and Insp Kneale said patrols had been stepped up to ensure residents were not living in fear of further harm to their vehicles.
“I want to reassure the community we are doing everything we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice,” he said.
“It is our priority to stop these attacks and this kind of crime in our community and I will do everything possible to support that.
“We have seen a significant number of attacks in this area of Wrexham and I can confirm one of the vehicles belonged to a previous victim, although we do not believe they were specifically targeted.”
He added: “We have a team of detectives working on this case, pursuing lines of inquiry, speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV as part of the identification process.
“We have increased patrols in the area and have had PCSOs out reassuring members of the public.
“North Wales Police take any arson extremely seriously and that is why we have a dedicated detective
officer assigned to this investigation.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111, quoting crime reference number S162991.
