A woman has been jailed for smuggling drugs into prison for her partner.
The drugs Susan Howells, 56, had hidden in her mouth and inside her body were found by specially-trained sniffer dogs.
Cardiff Crown Court were told her partner had been put under pressure during his spell atBridgend’s Parc Prison to get drugs brought in.
Howells said she then felt under pressure to help.
Dog detected 12 tablets
The dogs detected the 12 Buprenorphine tablets she was hiding when she made a prison visit on June 11, prosecutor Julian Greenwood said.
Judge Thomas Crowther QC cut what would usually be a longer sentence to one of 28 days for Howells after hearing she was a carer for her 89-year-old mother.
Mr Hayes said the inevitable jail sentence for this type of offence was going to impact not only on her but on her mother, who uses a wheelchair and relies on her for going out.
'Prison will be difficult for her'
Howell’s solicitor Giles Hayes told the court: “Her partner was serving three and a half years when pressure was put on him and as a result she was contacted.
“She has no previous convictions.
“Were it not for her partner being in prison and personal pressure being put on her, it is unlikely she would have broken the law.
“Prison will be difficult for her but she accepts full responsibility for what she has done.”
Judge Crowther told Howells of Heol yr Orsaf in Pontyclun : “You are 56 and not in good health but this offence strikes at the heart of the criminal justice system and will result in a custodial sentence.”
The judge said he had taken into account her early guilty plea to a charge of taking prohibited substances into a prison.
Howells was also told she will have to pay costs when she is released from prison.
