Wrexham,North Wales - Beggar breaches town ban for second time

Mark Prandle who has been banned from Wrexham town centre

Mark Prandle, 49, has 19 convictions for begging after appearing in court today

A well-known beggar recently banned from entering Wrexham town centre for two years, has breached his ban for a second time.
Mark Spencer Prandle, 49, admitted asking members of the public for money outside the Co-op store on Poplar Road on October 21 – resulting in his 19th conviction for begging since April 2010.
Around 50 customers complained to staff about the defendant asking them for spare change, Wrexham Magistrates Court heard today.
Last month, Prandle was issued with a two-year criminal behaviour order banning him from the town centre – other than to visit his bank via Regent Street under strict conditions.
He breached the ban for the first time earlier this month after being spotted on CCTV.
Rob Blakemore, prosecuting, told the court a supervisor at the Co-op store had contacted police on October 21 to say Prandle was outside the shop begging for money and he had been present on all of her shifts during a two-week period.
He added some members of the public had given Prandle food which he then tried to sell for cash.
Mr Blakemore said: “The main condition of the order was to not approach people for money.”

"He's always very polite with his requests"

Emma Simoes, defending, said Prandle, of Earl Street, Wrexham, was “well-known in the community” and it was “no surprise” her client was back before the courts.
She added: “The terms of the order are quite vast. For many years he has been of no fixed abode and does frequent that area.
“He’s not a gentleman who is aggressive, he’s always very polite with his requests. He does seem to adhere himself to people.
“He very recently had his toe amputated which is why he’s on crutches.”
Prandle was sentenced to two weeks’ in prison and ordered to pay £260 costs
