THE trial of three police officers accused of stealing £30,000 in cash during a drugs raid in Swansea is due to begin today.
Former South Wales Police detective sergeant Stephen Phillips, aged 46, from Winch Wen, Swansea, detective constable Christopher Evans, aged 37, of Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, and detective constable Michael Stokes, aged 34, from Glynneath, are all charged with theft by a serving police officer - charges the trio deny.
The officers are alleged to have taken bundles of notes from the home of a suspected criminal following a raid in 2011.
Their trial is due to begin at Cardiff Crown Court this morning, and is expected to last up to eight weeks.
The prosecution of the officers follows an investigation by South Wales Police's professional standards department.
