A mysterious fruit thief who has been stripping apple and plum trees in the Conwy Valley has struck again.
Over the last month, trees have been stripped of their fruit in Trefriw, Rowen, Tyn y Groes, Tal y Bont, Llanddoged and Dolgarrog.
During the last couple of weeks, the apple thief has struck at a cider farm in Trefriw.
Glyn Griffiths, of Glyn Farm Cider, says apples from nine trees were taken from his field.
“When the apple thefts started taking place, I was getting jokey text messages from my mates, asking me for their apples back because of our cider operation,” said Glyn, 52.
“All the apples from these nine trees are completely gone, and what’s really strange is there’s not even an apple left on the ground.
“It’s annoying, as they could have gone on to make 120 litres of cider.
“The grass doesn’t appear to have been disturbed in any way. Maybe the aliens have landed and are nicking the apples!
“I also know a mate whose 30 trees in Llanddoged have been hit. He’s lost every apple and isn’t very pleased.
“What’s really odd about this whole thing is that the apples are useless, as they weren’t ready for use until the end of October.
“Many people are saying the same thing, so why are they being stolen?
“I’m going to have to step up security next year.”
The last couple of weeks have also seen the thief strike at a property in Henryd, where three trees were stripped of their apples.
Hugh Jones, whose apples were taken, said: “I read about the theft in the Daily Post and went to look at our apple trees. I couldn’t believe it as there wasn’t a single apple left!
