A THIEF who went on a month-long spree stealing thousands of pounds worth of cash, jewellery, clothes and Swansea City shirts — and even a car wheel — has been jailed.
One of his targets was the same bookmakers he had been given a suspended sentence for stealing from earlier in the year.
Andrew Mark Davies, of Mile End Road, Cwmdu, pleaded guilty to seven counts of theft when he appeared via videolink at Swansea Crown Court — the court heard the 35-year-old has 81 previous offences on his record, including more then two-dozen for theft matters.
Brian Simpson, prosecuting, said the spree started on the night of August 6, when a car parked on Pentregethin Road in Gendros was jacked-up and had one of its wheels removed — police found the jack used, and were subsequently able to recover DNA from it.
The second theft happened at the Coral bookmakers on Gower Road in Sketty when Davies leaned over the counter while staff were distracted and snatched £160 from the open till before running off.

The CK supermarket in Cwmbwrla was his next target — Davies bought tobacco in the shop but when the cashier opened the till to give him his change he grabbed the money inside, some £470, before running away.
Davies got away with less money from his next target — the Iceland supermarket in Cwmdu on August 17. The court heard on this occasion he made a grab for cash when the customer next to him was being given change — the quick-acting cashier managed to slam the cash register closed but the defendant made-off with the customer's change of £9.50 instead.
A week later Davies turned his attention to Morriston — the prosecutor said he was seen hanging around outside the Gold Gallery shop on Woodfield Street before snatching a tray of rings from the window display worth around £4,000, and fleeing.
Davies returned to Cwmdu for his next theft on September 8 when he grabbed 15 Swansea City football shirts from the club shop, worth some £689, before making off — later that day he went to Parc Tawe and stole £965-worth of clothes from JD Sports.
He was arrested the following day.
In January this year he had been given a suspended sentence after stealing cash from the same Sketty bookmakers he targeted in August — that suspended sentence was subsequently activated and he was sent to prison when he was caught driving while under the influence.
Huw Davies, for the defendant, said there had been "little of no planning" in the theft offences.
Davies was sentenced to a total of 52 weeks in prison.
