Two people have died after a car crash in Merthyr Tydfil

A third person is in hospital in a critical condition following the crash in Merthyr on Sunday night

(Worrying that someone could die doing 30mph by hitting a lampost)

Two people have died and a third is in a critical condition in hospital after a car hit a telegraph pole in Merthyr.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the pair were killed when a white Seat Ibiza collided with a pole in Aberdare Road near the junction of Tramroad Side at about 10.30pm on Sunday night.

A third person is being treated at the University Hospital of Wales, Heath, Cardiff, where they are in a critical condition.

Witness appeal

The road was closed for approximately seven hours in the aftermath of the collision.

A South Wales Police spokesman has appealed for anyone who saw the vehicle in the area before the collision to contact them.
