Cllr Priestley expressed his disgust after the new equipment was vandalised
A COUNCILLOR has expressed his disgust at the vandals who have damaged new park equipment being installed in Llandudno Junction.
The equipment, that includes outdoor gym equipment and children’s play apparatus, is in the process of being installed at Victoria Park.
Cllr Mike Priestley said: “It is supposed to be a park where children can have fun, and it’s been good to see the progress that was being made.
“But the mindless vandalism that has now occurred is delaying the project.
“We think that children are getting in to the construction site while the park flooring is being put down and damaging it before it has time to set.
“It is very frustrating that this project has been ongoing for years at a cost of over £130,000 and the opening has now been delayed because of the mindless actions of some.”
The contractors have repaired the damage over the weekend and re-set the safety surface.
“We are hopeful that the park will be able to open in the very near future,” said Cllr Priestley.
“We have asked for the CCTV surveillance to be upped and strongly encourage any member of the public who sees any vandalism taking place to report it to the police by phoning 101.
“Although it’s an idiotic minority who have damaged the park surface they’re spoiling it for the majority.”
Mel Lewis, from Llandudno Junction Community Club, who helped submit the funding bid for the park revamp, said: “I’m absolutely disgusted to hear about this vandalism.
“It makes you wonder why you bother sometimes. It’s such a shame for the families who will appreciate the park and benefit from it, it’s soul destroying really.
People have worked so hard on the project.”
