Engedi will move from its current venue within the Imperial Hotel building, on Station Road, to Builder Street in Llandudno
A POPULAR community arts association is to close its doors in Colwyn Bay after its premises came under new ownership.
Engedi, which offers a number of services to the community including a drop in centre and family space, will move from its current venue within the Imperial Hotel building, on Station Road, to Builder Street in Llandudno.
John Strickland, former director of Redway Estates Ltd, which owns the building, confirmed that a change in shareholders meant there had technically been a change of ownership over the site, and he believed the new owner intended to put the property to residential use.
Gavin Mart, founder of Engedi, said: “We’re starting a creative partnership with the Great Orme Brewery to develop an artisan hub on Builder Street, which will be a creative space with a coffee bar and craft beer centre to be launched in mid November.
“It is going to be a shame to lose the venue in Colwyn Bay - there just doesn’t seem to be a way forward but we’re looking forward to new opportunities in Llandudno.”
Dave Peacock, who has been going to Engedi for more than two years, said: "It's been a place where peple can meet. It uses the arts as a core function but its not even that - this place does enrich people's lives.”
Engedi’s next event, which Mr Mart said will offer people a taste of things to come, will be at Conwy Feast on October 24, where the association will have an accoustic music venue at Capel Tabernacl in Conwy from 6pm to 8pm.
A planning application to create 17 flats within the building was submitted to Conwy County Council for by Redway Estates in 2012 and approved after a decision from the Wales Planning Inspectorate.
