A would-be rapist climbed a ladder to sneak into a woman's bedroom - and she woke to hear him say: "I want sex."
Ian Fox, 40, used the 12ft ladder to clamber into the upstairs through an open bathroom window of the sleeping woman.
And his terrified victim was woken to see him taking off his clothes as he whispered: "This is happening."
A court heard he ripped off her underwear before she managed to escaped and lock the bathroom door behind her.
Newport Crown Court heard that Fox used a ladder to climb in through the open bathroom window of the victim's house in July 5 this year
Prosecutor Jason Howells said: "She woke up and saw Fox standing at the side of her bed near her head.
"Fox then said to her: 'I want sex. This is happening' before he started taking off his clothes."The court heard he started 'rubbing himself' against her as he pinned her down using his knees, before tearing off the victim's underwear as she tried to roll away.Mr Howells said: "She managed to run to the bathroom and lock the door."After he left the house the victim went to her neighbour's house and rang the police.After he was arrested Fox told police: 'I shouldn't have gone down there. I'm so stupid."Sue Ferrier, in mitigation, said that he was a man with no previous convictions and was 'genuinely remorseful'.She added: "Right from the go this is someone who realised what he did was wrong and wanted to do something about it."He understands the impact on her and that it has been extremely upsetting and frightening for her."He considers that he has lost everything in his life."Fox, of Cefn Fforest, near Blackwood, pleaded guilty to attempted rape.He was jailed for a total of four years and eight months.His Honour Judge Neil Bidder QC said: "This was a terrifying ordeal. She has been severely affected."
