House was taped off today

A resident living on Stanton Crescent, where Mr Groom is believed to have been assaulted, said police arrived on the street today.
They said: “Police put the tape up today and there were about five cars here I think.”

Witness heard shouts of "get out"

A neighbour has told how they heard someone shout “get out, get out” in the early hours of Thursday morning.
One resident living near to the property said: “I heard lots of shouting in the early hours of Thursday morning. Someone was shouting ‘get out, get out’. I looked out the window and saw a man walking off from the house. He was in just jeans and a black t-shirt and went down the road.”

Detectives looking into how victim suffered injuries

Police say they are looking into how Mr Groom came to suffer his injuries.

Victim died several days after 'assault'

Police say that Mr Groom had been at a property in Stanton Crescent, Kirkby, in the early hours of Thursday morning. They suspect he was assaulted outside the house. The 48-year-old was treated by paramedics at his house in Longmoor Lane in Fazakerley on Saturday morning after a friend became concerned about him and dialled 999. But he died later in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Police have interviewed witnesses

Police say they have interviewed a number of witnesses already but are appealing for anyone who might have seen anything to come forward.
Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in Stanton Crescent in Kirkby between Thursday 8th December and Saturday 10th December is encouraged to call Knowsley CID on 0151 777 6064 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Mr Groom died of head injuries

According to Merseyside Police, a Home Office post mortem examination carried out today has established a preliminary cause of death as being blunt force trauma to the head. Detectives say his injuries are consistent with those of an assault.

Family devastated by murder

Police say that Mr Groom’s family are devastated by his death. Specialist officers are supporting the family who have travelled from Wrexham to Merseyside.
Detective Inspector Craig Turner from Knowsley CID said: “Paul’s death is a tragedy and has left his family devastated. We are determined to find out what happened. We believe he was involved in an altercation either inside or outside a house in Stanton Crescent, Kirkby in the early hours of Thursday. He suffered injuries consistent with an assault but managed to get home to Fazakerley where his condition deteriorated to the point where a friend called an ambulance on Saturday morning. We need to establish Paul’s movements from Wednesday night through to Saturday morning and trace everyone he was with.”

Murder hunt launched after Wrexham man killed in house party attack

Merseyside Police have now launched a murder investigation and detectives are looking into the circumstances surrounding how he suffered his injures.
Several people who were at the address at the time have been spoken to as witnesses and detectives are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify and trace anyone else who was in the area at the time or who had any contact with the victim.

Live: Police launch murder investigation

A murder investigation has been launched after a Wrexham man was murdered in Liverpool.
Paul Groom, originally from Wrexham, but living in Liverpool, died in hospital on Saturday night, having suffered head injuries in an assault several days earlier.
The 48-year-old was treated by paramedics at his house in Longmoor Lane in Fazakerley on Saturday morning after a friend became concerned about him and dialled 999.
Police remain on the scene tonight.
